Dear Member

European Bowls Union Championships 2021

The European Bowls Union today announces that due to the Covid-19 pandemic the 2021 Championships to be held in Ayr Scotland has been cancelled.

The very busy 2022 calendar means that the next European Championship will be held in 2023, Bowls Scotland have agreed in principle to host the event.

We are confident that the current restrictions and vaccine roll out will have a major positive effect on the transmission of the virus and will lead to the return to some domestic play in our respective countries, however, international travel will remain a serious and ever-changing challenge.

The EBU is considering other options for the return of European bowls possibly with a smaller event in early 2022 and we will keep you informed. The EBU would welcome any notes of interest in hosting an event.

Secretary

                                                                                        CHAMPION of CHAMPIONS

World Bowls, having fully considered all current global circumstances, have regrettably decided that the World Singles Champion of Champions

2021 scheduled to be held at Naenae Bowling Club Wellington New Zealand must now be cancelled.

The next edition of the annual World Singles Champion of Champions will now be the 2022 event and has already been confirmed, to be held in November 2022, at the same venue in New Zealand.

WORLD BOWLS CHAMPIONSHIPS GOLD COAST AUSTRALIA

World Bowls, Bowls Australia Host Organising Committee, and their key event stakeholders having fully considered all current global circumstances and the outlook for continuing restrictions relating to the global pandemic for the rest of 2021 have decided that it is now necessary to further postpone the World Bowls Championships scheduled to be held in September 2021.

The revised dates for the events are now 8-23 October 2022 (inclusive of 3 practise days ).

All the above parties have expressed their continuing full support and desire for this major flagship event to still go ahead hence this final proposal to reschedule.

You will fully appreciate that in order for World Bowls and Bowls Australia to now push forward with all the planning requirements, we must first ensure that there is a viable level of confirmed attendance by participating nations for these proposed revised arrangements to be finally confirmed, and then these revised arrangments can be formally, publicly announced.

As such, we require you to confirm, at the earliest but no later than Friday 5th March, that you will still participate in the event on these revised dates in October 2022 in those disciplines in which you have qualified subject to travel restrictions, or otherwise.

Your attention to and cooperation with the above is much appreciated

The Welsh Bowling Association are saddened to learn of the resignation of our team manager David Harding.  David is a great ambassador for Welsh bowls both as a player and more recently as our team manager.

The Welsh Bowling Association would like to take this opportunity of thanking David Harding, for all his time and efforts over the last few years, as W.B.A. Team Manager.

David's achievements with both the U25 and Senior side is a testimony to his dedication as Team Manager.  Over the past several years David has guided the selected bowlers to World Youth Gold, Commonwealth Games Gold in the Pairs and a near-miss bronze in the fours, BIBC senior title in 2018, our first win away for over 60 years in England, Atlantic Championships Bronze in all events, an impressive record which David and the Welsh Bowling Association are extremely proud of.

His dedication, enthusiasm, and work ethic are without question and we wish him all the very best for the future in whatever journey he decides to take, hopefully that will include returning to our association at some point in the future.

Good morning Ladies and Gents, we are still waiting further guidance from the Welsh Government regarding our sport and are hopeful of getting something soon.  We can only advise clubs to be patient because it would not reflect well if a fresh outbreak of the virus were associated with the bowling fraternity because we jumped the gun, so to speak.

The latest we have has been posted on the Bowls Wales website which you can access from the link below.

My thanks goes to Claire Joll and her team for keeping us up to date.

Ladies Charity 2020

Very sad news this morning with the passing of JIM O'CONNOR a stalwart of Bedwellty Park Bowls Club for many years.  Jim made many friends in the bowling world and was always a very sociable and pleasant bloke who always had time for a chat.  Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.  At this unusual time funeral arrangements have been very limited but as soon as we know the arrangements we will post it here for peoples information.

The W.B.A. would like to welcome bowlers back to the greens following the first minister's announcement on Friday.  Although it is only social bowling at this time we are sure some members will find this beneficial.  Please continue to follow government and club guidelines to ensure you and your families remain as safe as possible.
